Using the website www.storybird.com, teachers will create a free teacher/class account. Once the account is set up, go to the students link and add each of your students. Once students have access to their Storybird accounts, they may start the lesson:
- Instruct students to select the create link at the top of the page.
- Then have them select the All Artwork link on the left side.
- Instruct students to look through the artwork for an image that strikes their interest.
- When they find one, have them click the image. It will direct them to a page of the artist's similar work.
- The students can select the artist to begin their story.
- As in the lesson before, students will use the images to infer meaning and create a story with a beginning, middle, and end, only this time, there will be a number of pictures that go with their story and they will need to write along with the pictures as they go.
- Give students time over 3-4 days to work on this story.
- Once they have finished, make sure all work is saved onto the class site.
Why I Chose This Tool:
Storybird is a really neat and engaging site because students can essentially make their own real book. The best part is that you do have the option of purchasing the book if you want to (or parents could purchase it).
